Frog City ist ein Kunstfestival, das im September 2024 auf der Freilichtbühne Weißensee stattfand. Der Veranstaltungsort liegt eingebettet im Park mit einem See, der ein wichtiger Rückzugsort für Pflanzen und Tiere ist, sich aber auch zu einem urbanen Treffpunkt entwickelt hat. Er steht beispielhaft für die schwindenden Freiflächen und ökologischen Lebensräume in Berlin. Angesichts der geplanten Sanierungsmaßnahmen im Park hinterfragt das Festival die romantisierte Vorstellung von Natur im städtischen Raum und den Klassismus im Umweltschutz. Zehn Positionen aus den Bereichen Skulptur, Medienkunst und Performance treten in einen Dialog mit der ostdeutschen Architektur sowie mit den Tieren, Pflanzen und Menschen der Umgebung. Die Künstler*innen nutzten natürliche Ressourcen wie Algen aus dem See, tonhaltige Erde aus der Umgebung sowie weggeworfene Bierdosen am Ufer. Die tägliche Tour mit dem Festivalteam und den Künstler*innen ermöglichte einen unmittelbaren Austausch und trägt die Erzählung der Kunstwerke weiter.

Frog City is an art festival that took place in September 2024 at the Freilichtbühne Weißensee. The site is nestled into a park with a lake, which is an important sanctuary for plants and animals but also has developed into a dense urban meeting spot. It is paradigmatic of the vanishing open spaces and ecological habitats in Berlin. In view of the planned redevelopment measures, the festival questions the romanticized notion of nature in urban spaces and classism in environmental protection. Ten positions in sculpture, media art, and performance enter into dialogue with the East German architecture and the animals, plants, and people of the surrounding area. The artists spent many days on site, using natural resources like algae from the lake, clayrich earth in the surrounding area and discarded beer cans from the shore. The daily tour with the festival team and the artists allowed for an immediate exchange and carried the narrative of the artworks further.
