Ein Renault Mégane Cabrio steht in der Chemnitzer Innenstadt und wirbt für ein scheinbar utopisches Gewinnspiel: Der beste Stein gewinnt das Auto! Vier Tage lang sind Hobbygeolog*innen und Steinfans eingeladen, ihre besten Brocken einzureichen. Parallel sendet der Bauwagen nebenan das Piratenradio Karl Marx FM, das die Geschichten hinter den Steinen erzählt, Stein-ASMR ausstrahlt und Diskussionen über Mobilität führt. Das Projekt hinterfragt die Entstehung von Werten und Bedürfnissen und bezieht sich auf Chemnitz als Automobilstandort sowie auf den Versteinerten Wald, ein geologisches Relikt eines Vulkanausbruchs vor rund 290 Millionen Jahren. Die Wahl des "besten" Steins legt die Absurdität mancher Erfolgserzählungen offen und übt Kritik an intransparenten Auswahl- und Vergabeverfahren. Einige der abgegebenen Steine werden schließlich als Tuning Objekte auf das Auto geklebt und an die Gewinnerin übergeben.

Renault Megané Cabrio, stones, glass cabinet, trailer 

For four days, Art Ashram is occupying a square between the concrete blocks of Chemnitz for a utopian contest: Bring the best stone and win, yet again, a car! A fully working Renault Meganè convertible is waiting for a new owner! Amateur geologists and stone enthusiasts are invited to submit their finest finds. At the same time, a construction trailer next door broadcasts the pirate radio station Karl Marx FM, sharing the stories behind the stones, airing stone ASMR, and hosting discussions on mobility. The project questions how values and needs are constructed, while also referencing Chemnitz’s identity as an automotive hub and the Petrified Forest, a geological relic of a volcanic eruption around 290 million years ago. Selecting the “best” stone exposes the absurdity of certain success narratives and critiques opaque selection and allocation processes. Some of the submitted stones are ultimately attached to the car as tuning objects and presented along with it to the winner.
